Good morning, Just Jane 1813 readers! I hope you’re enjoying your Sunday morning and the extra hour of reading we were blessed with this weekend.
To give you a little something special to savor today, I am thrilled to welcome Cat Gardiner back to Just Jane 1813 to host one of the posts for her “Without a Conscience” book tour and I LOVE the special excerpt she’s sharing with my readers today! “Denial of Conscience” is one of my favorite modern JAFF reads and recently was listed on my list of Just Jane 1813 Top 10 JAFF Staycation Reads. Not only does Cat know how to weave a web of intrigue, she also knows hot to create a smoking hot relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. I can’t wait to see what she brings us in this long-awaited sequel! I have read all of Cat’s books, and this is one of my favorites.
I also read the novelette, “Guilty Conscience,”” which offers a delicious taste of what’s to come in “Without a Conscience.” Cat is offering free copies of this novelette to all of the readers who leave a comment on Meredith’s post from last Friday. All you have to do is leave a comment on her post, along with your email address.
So, hang on today for a great ride as we get a sneak peek look behind-the-scenes at the dearest, loveliest, Elizabeth Bennet Darcy. I am sorry for the duplicate images below; my blog dashboard isn’t allowing me to properly review this post
I’m so happy to be back at Just Jane 1813. Thank you, Claudine for hosting Without a Conscience and for all you do for the JAFF community through your lovely blog! I’m honored to be here with your readers.
Stop four on the hog tour brings us the second of four CIA dossiers and since Claudine is a Lizzy girl, I’d like to share with readers a special excerpt! In Without a Conscience, our dear girl really has become my favorite character. She spreads her wings and flies untamed, but she knows that Darcy will be there to catch her if she falls. Oh boy will he! I love that the “Lizzy of Longbourn” has been reborn as Liz―not just as the “mistress” of Pemberley, solely defined as “Mrs. Darcy”―but has blossomed as a woman embracing just about everything that life throws at her.
In many ways, this modern Liz is similar to our canon Lizzy. She’s spirited and headstrong, and challenges Darcy with an arched eyebrow before freely speaking her mind. However, WaC’s Liz, does come into her new marriage with baggage born from old wounds, and no matter how she tries to bury fears held over from “Lizzy of Longbourn” they still attempt to emerge to get the better of her.
In this excerpt, Liz and Darcy have come to an impasse―he’s not communicating with her about something weighing heavily on his mind and, until he’s ready to share his struggle, she hides in her greenhouse as he works it out in the stable. This retreat is reminiscent of her habit of old back at Longbourn. I hope you enjoy this glimpse – and rest assure – it’ll all work out splendidly!
My visual inspiration for Liz is the beautiful and talented actress, Gemma Arterton.
This is the exciting sequel to Denial of Conscience, a modern Darcy and Elizabeth adventure of international intrigue. Romance, Suspense, Passion, and Danger
Someone wants to kill The Iceman, Fitzwilliam Darcy, and will stop at nothing to lure him into the open. Out for retribution, the son of an assassinated South American drug lord is seeking payback. His diabolical objective puts Operation Macarena into play by dangling bait guaranteed to entice his enemy. Can Darcy’s new bride, Liz, accept his decision to leave their tranquil life at Pemberley to resume the deadly profession he swore was behind them forever?
But are Darcy and Liz each fully satisfied with their simple, peaceful existence raising polo ponies and planning exotic vacations? Darcy set Liz’s spirit free; how can she resist the urge to ride on the wild side? Perhaps coming out of retirement is just what her husband needs because The Iceman never truly melted.
Without a Conscience takes readers on an adventure from the dangerous Peruvian Amazon Basin to the salacious underbelly of Parisian nightlife, leading toward a perilous rescue in Moscow.
Conscience or no, but propelled by love, Liz and Darcy re-enter the realm of international intrigue for the one and only thing they know is truly worth fighting for: each other.
