Can an “Old Wolf” Learn to Enjoy New Tricks?
Rating: 5 stars out of 5
My friends on Goodreads know that I am a “sequel” girl, as some have called me, since I do love a good JAFF sequel. I love to imagine the life that Darcy and Elizabeth are leading at Pemberley, tucked away in their stately English haven. I’ve spent so many happy hours with them as they have started a family, overcome tremendous obstacles and blended their two extended families together with some rather humorous and mortifying moments. Therefore, after reading the first two books in this series, my love of JAFF sequels had me looking forward to this one.
Even though “Mr. Darcy Bites” concludes with a scene that takes place well into the later years of Darcy and Elizabeth’s lives, Ms. Simonsen backs up their story in “Mr. Darcy Bites Back- A Sequel to Mr. Darcy’s Bite,” and focuses this novella on Darcy and Elizabeth’s first year of marriage. From the start, we learn more about the sweet rituals that are part of the Darcy’s lives at Pemberley, while also becoming aware that trouble is brewing in Derbyshire, as rumors begin to swirl through the air about a phantom Ghost Buck who has been seen roaming at Pemberley. Can this creature really exist or is there a more wicked plot brewing? More importantly, with the hunting season approaching, can the wolves of Derbyshire survive throughout this upcoming season?
Now that these rumors are gaining in strength, Darcy finds himself searching for ways to safely alleviate this situation. Yet, all is not as it seems, as trouble is also starting amongst the members of Darcy’s wolf pack. Now that Nell has to share Darcy, her attempts to garner his attentions become bolder and bolder, threatening not only her relationship with Darcy, but their entire pack.
I loved the way that Ms. Simonsen joins together werewolves, the Royal family and a part human-part werewolf love triangle, to create a novella that captivates our imaginations and makes us chuckle, especially as many of Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s best laid plans concerning Nell take a turn in another direction… Will there ever truly be peace at Pemberley?
I was fond of how the werewolf community worked together to keep their secret from society, including their great efforts to keep everyone safe and well-insulated from various forms of harmful behaviors. I also admired how the masters and their servants joined forces together for the good of all, during what I thought of as “Downtown Abbey” moments. This was a wonderful sequel about characters that I found as appealing from the beginning of this series to the very last pages of this sequel. I will recall them with warm feelings each time I glance upon a sparkling full moon…
I am howling with joy to offer my readers an opportunity to win an ebook copy of “Mr. Darcy Bites Back- A Sequel to Mr. Darcy’s Bite.” Please tell me about a JAFF sequel you have enjoyed in the comments section to enter this giveaway by November 3rd.
