Can a Bachelor Werewolf Find Happiness Outside of His Own Pack?
Rating: 5 Stars out of 5
This full-length novel picks up right where Ms. Simonsen’s latest novella, “Mr. Darcy – Bitten” leaves off, as we travel to Pemberley with Darcy and Elizabeth, to discover how Darcy will finally reveal his dark secret to Elizabeth.
Once they’re at Pemberley, with the support of Georgiana and Anne, Darcy prepares himself and Elizabeth for the outcome of the next lunar cycle. Worried about Elizabeth’s reaction to Darcy’s secret, the trio brace themselves for Elizabeth’s departure from their lives. Darcy asks Elizabeth to light a candle in the window while he is gone, if she has decided she can marry him, now that she knows his secret. The next two days will decide the future of Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship.
As she is left to spend the next two days with Georgiana and Anne, Elizabeth must come to terms with the reality of Darcy’s secret. Should she light the candle and make a promise to Darcy that she may not be ready for in her life. Or will she allow the darkness in her window to symbolize the future of their love?
These scenes are some of my favorite scenes in this series. As we witness Elizabeth’s actions over the next few days, we see not only how she has been deeply affected by this secret, but also how Georgiana and Anne are also united in their fears concerning Elizabeth’s final decisions regarding her future with Darcy. Now it is up to Elizabeth to decide what path she will allow her own life to take. As she confides her feelings to Anne, she becomes intimately aware of what her future as the wife of Darcy the werewolf will mean for her and their children. As Elizabeth thinks she has made a final decision about Darcy, she meets the wolf who is Darcy’s “companion” throughout each lunar cycle, and she is none other than Nell, a local female werewolf, who is also known as a beautiful lady of substantial means and rank. Can Elizabeth really walk away from Darcy now and allow Nell to have her way with Darcy?
After they meet in Darcy’s private study, and he returns to his human form, the story moves in a new direction, as important decisions are made between the couple regarding their own future. Can Darcy, the alpha male of his pack, really be happy married to such a strong-willed woman? Wouldn’t life be easier for Darcy if he married another werewolf? How can Darcy ever have any peace in his life if the other werewolves under his protection continue to act in such a reckless manner?
“Mr. Darcy’s Bite” is a paranormal story that weaves together the turbulent life of a werewolf with the kind and loving heart of a man. Throughout the story, Ms. Simonsen has carefully tucked historical tidbits into this alternate world, where high society meets a haunting and well-connected secret society. She also does a great job connecting the characters throughout the book so that their stories are brought together in unexpected and meaningful ways.
The parting chapter ties the story up nicely for us and provides readers with a glimpse into what the future looks like at Pemberley for the Darcy family. Here, we can imagine that somehow the ties that bind us are stronger than the forces that threaten to break us and that England never really had its wolf population under complete control!
It’s also a great time to buy this book because Amazon has temporarily lowered the price of this book to $2.99 for an unspecified amount of time. So why not read the whole series this week?
