I love the holiday season! Several years ago, I made a deliberate decision to focus on celebrating the entire season. I didn’t want to have all of our holiday memories revolve around a few isolated days that seemed to pass by in the blink of an eye. I wanted to slow down, craft a specific plan for savoring the holiday season and capture our memories in a way that would allow us to enjoy these memories for many years to come.
Fast forward to December 1, 2015… I am so grateful that our home is dripping with holiday decorations, I’ve already shared some baked goods with friends and I have my holiday craft plans well in order. I feel like it’s going to be a truly memorable season! Yet, the new holiday tradition that has me really feeling like a kid at Christmas time this year is all of the holiday JAFF I have been reading. When I became a JAFF reader this year, I saved most of my holiday JAFF reading for this season and I have to say, it was a wonderful decision because there really is nothing like a sleigh ride, or some warm plum pudding or a stolen kiss under the mistletoe with Mr. Darcy!
When I started this blog several weeks ago, the idea of combining the pleasures of holiday JAFF with a blog event to celebrate the season slowly formed in my mind until I had a full-fledged plan in place that made my spirits soar. Just Jane 1813 readers are going to enjoy the pleasures of numerous book reviews, several giveaways, combined with some unique JAFF surprises that JAFF readers will only find at Just Jane 1813. To receive these posts, along with future blog posts, please subscribe to this blog at the sidebar on the left side.
If we were going to celebrate The Twelve Days of Christmas in a manner similar during Austen’s lifetime, we would begin our event on Christmas Day; however, I believe our modern sensibilities and lifestyles lend themselves to starting the season earlier in the month in an effort to truly enjoy the holiday season. Readers will find themselves with new holiday JAFF to savor, creating what I hope becomes for you, a most rewarding holiday tradition. For readers who want a peek into the JAFF books I’ll be sharing this week, please see the slideshow on the sidebar for more details.
So please join me here each day from December 1-12, 2015, for a new holiday JAFF post and share this event with everyone that you want to spread some JAFF holiday cheer to this year. Our giveaways can be entered until mid-December, so that if you find yourself swept away by the holiday rush, please know there’s plenty of time to come back here to enter our generous giveaways. Please know that if you can make the time to leave a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads for any of the JAFF that you read, you would be giving our authors a gift that really pays tribute to their work.
For our blog readers with a U.S. mailing address who comment on at least one blog post every day from December 1-12, 2015, please know your name will be entered into our cosmetic giveaway, (for the modern Janeite) where you will be entered in a chance to win a GLAMGLOW face treatment, valued at $69.00. All blog post comments must be posted by midnight ET on December 17, 2015.
I want to wrap up this post with a tremendous thank you to our JAFF authors, who graciously gave to me their time, their brilliant ideas for this event and their wonderful giveaways for our readers. For me, the greatest gift I have received as a reader this year has been the overwhelming friendship and support I’ve been blessed with from the JAFF community. This really is a group of talented, supportive and caring people, who not only bring to life the ideals, as well as the characters from Jane Austen’s work, they also give us a vision for how Jane’s values and insights can guide us today into growing into our own personal best.
Please accept my best wishes for a meaningful and magical holiday season and enjoy “The Twelve Days of Jane.”
