“Is this your Elizabeth?”
It all started with this simple question after I eagerly read an early ARC of Joana Starnes’ latest book, Mr Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter.
I have been a huge fan of Joana’s books since I read my first one, From This Day Forward, and having the opportunity to read this new story was a tremendous pleasure for me.
But, like most book lovers, once I finished reading this story, I couldn’t let it go. Through their ups and downs in their intense relationship, Joana’s Darcy and Elizabeth had seeped into my heart and I couldn’t resist searching online for the image of what I believed was the Elizabeth Bennet in this story.
Could there be an image of one of the world’s most famous heroines that hasn’t been placed on a book cover already that would resonate with readers as their very own Elizabeth Bennet too?
Through online exchanges and conversations about this story, Joana felt as strongly about this image and wanted her to be Mr Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter; the young woman who, instead of refusing Fitzwilliam Darcy’s marriage proposal in Kent, decides to accept his offer in order to secure her family’s future. But is that the kind of marriage they really both want to experience in own their lives?
This is Joana’s first story that focuses on an early marriage scenario for Darcy and Elizabeth and I have no doubts that readers will find it to be an emotive, gripping, and well-paced story that displays all of the talents that readers have come to love in Joana’s stories.

When Colonel Fitzwilliam’s disclosures are interrupted by the bearer of distressing news from Longbourn, Miss Elizabeth Bennet is compelled to consider an offer she would have otherwise dismissed out of hand. An offer of marriage from the all-too-proud Mr Darcy.
Yet how is she to live with a husband she hardly knows and does not love? Would she be trapped in a marriage of convenience while events conspire to divide them? Or would love grow as, day by day and hour after hour, she learns to understand the man she married, before she loses his trust and his heart?
