A Pride and Prejudice Regency Christmas Variation ~Darcy and Elizabeth’s son Will celebrates his first Christmas with his twin cousins, Charles and Fitz Bingley. Join in the felicity at Pemberley as Darcy revives an old family custom, while little Will begins to learn the joy of giving. Along for the fun are Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, Georgiana, Lydia, and three attentive nursemaids. And of course, it wouldn’t be a comedy without Caroline Bingley.
They say that all of our lives contain a bit of serendipity; the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for. I could easily say serendipity played a role in discovering JAFF for me. After all, who can’t relate to experiencing a bit of serendipity throughout their lives? In Barbara Silkstone’s recent JAFF release, “Serendipity,” Darcy and Elizabeth experience those unusual moments where two people seem to appear as a perfect fit for one another. Hence the title, “Serendipity.”
In “Will’s First Christmas,” Ms Silkstone takes us back to this story and spins a holiday tale sequel where Darcy and Elizabeth share the pleasures of Christmas with their young son, Will, his young Bingley cousins, his Aunt Georgiana and his Bennet family relations, when they all share a new holiday tradition to keep the bonds of family and friends stronger than ever at Pemberley.
Yet, when Darcy and Elizabeth share their plans for helping their young son celebrate Christmas, they catch their family by surprise with their request. It’s up to the rest of the family to decide how they will react to the Darcys’ request, and with that comes quite a bit of fun. Never one to let others choose her course, Mrs. Bennet decides that she isn’t really game for Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s holiday plans. Will her ideas about showing Darcy what she really thinks of his holiday tradition get her evicted from the halls of Pemberley? Or will the master of Pemberley have a change of heart?
Inserting humor, and playfulness into her holiday novella, Barbara Silkstone demonstrates that you’re never too young to learn the reason for the season, and you’re never too old to help a youngster learn the true value of giving and receiving throughout the holiday season. As readers journey throughout the beautifully decorated halls of Pemberley, and travel with our favorite characters along the winter roads along this vast estate, they will be reminded why traditions, old and new, are what help to tie the bonds between the past, present, and future generations of family members.
At under one-hundred pages, this book packs a lot of meaning into a season where JAFF readers will enjoy being able to enjoy the delights of the season within a relatively short time period. This would make a really nice fireside read when the holiday spirit is high, but the timeframe for reading may be short. I may not live at Pemberley, but I sure feel like this story reminded me of many of the things that I can be grateful to enjoy this holiday season!
I’d like to thank Ms. Silkstone for providing me with an eARC in exchange for a fair and honest review of this book.
