“. . . and at that moment she felt that to be mistress of Pemberley might be something!” Jane Austen, Pride & Prejudice, Chapter 43
Good morning my dear readers, and hello March! The start of a new month always brings a smile to my face, and as we enter the approaching spring season, I hope we feel some more warm weather sooner rather than later and that the JAFF community brings us some lovely new reads!
Today, I have the honor of revealing the cover for Sophie Turner’s upcoming release, Mistress: A Pride and Prejudice Variation, With Parts Not Suitable for Those Who Have Not Reached Their Majority. This book is a departure from her previous stories and demonstrates why I love when an author veers a bit from his/her published work to delve into creating something quite different for his/her readers.
Therefore, I want to share the book blurb before I reveal the cover to help my readers connect this cover to Sophie’s upcoming release:
One night, to decide his entire life’s happiness.
Chastened by Charles Bingley following Mr. Bennet’s untimely death, Fitzwilliam Darcy determines he will offer marriage to Elizabeth Bennet, but she marries another.
Years later, a widowed Elizabeth is mistress of Longbourn, and has vowed she will never marry again. A house party at Netherfield brings them back together, but Darcy will have to win more than her heart if he is to have any chance at making her mistress of Pemberley.
Readers of Sophie Turner’s more chaste Constant Love series should be aware that this novel contains decidedly adult content at certain parts of the story.
It’s my pleasure to unveil the cover of Mistress to you:
If you haven’t read Sophie’s previous work, please allow me the pleasure of introducing her to you!
Sophie Turner worked as an online editor before delving even more fully into the tech world. Writing, researching the Regency era, and occasionally dreaming about living in Britain are her escapes from her day job.
She was afraid of long series until she ventured upon Patrick O’Brian’s 20-book Aubrey-Maturin masterpiece, something she might have repeated five times through.
Alas, her Constant Love series is only planned to be seven books right now, and consists of A Constant Love, A Change of Legacies, and the in-progress A Season Lost.
She blogs about her writing endeavours at sophie-turner-acl.blogspot.com, where readers can find direction for the various social drawing-rooms across the Internet where she may be called upon.
Doesn’t this sound like a fascinating twist for our dear couple? This story focuses on Elizabeth’s early widowhood as she finds herself once again in the company of that dark, brooding gentleman we all love. The funny thing is, Austen also wrote quite a bit about widows in her stories too and even included some mistresses in her own stories as well. Widowhood is actually as common as marriage throughout her novels: there at least 19 widows and nine widowers in her stories. I think Sophie does a great job capturing Elizabeth as a widow throughout her story; a young widow, that is, who still has many promising years ahead of her!
Sophie is offering my Just Jane 1813 readers a special giveaway for this cover reveal. Please leave a comment on this blog post no later than March 8th, midnight ET, to enter your chance to win one of the following two bundles; a reader’s choice of the ebook or a paperback copy of Mistress, an audiobook of A Constant Love, which was just recently released as an audiobook, and a Pemberley Gardens candle from Frostbeard Studio.
