In the world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction, I have enjoyed a few books that actually pllace Jane Austen as a character within her own story. Collins Hemingway has written one of my favorite series of this kind and today it’s an honor to help him launch the cover reveal for the third and final book in his trilogy, The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen: Volume III.
Last year, I had the pleasure to read and review Volume I and Volume II in this trilogy, (Volume II was named a Just Jane 1813 Reviewer’s Favorite of 2016) and therefore, I was filled with great anticipation to host this cover reveal and get started on reading Volume III.
What really draws me into this series is the masterful way that Collins Hemingway has woven together the fictional marriage of Jane Austen to a man that I find so well-suited to her, along with a story that touches upon several of the prominent social and economic issues pertaining to their lives during this time period. I love getting lost in a story that allows me to reimagine Jane Austen as a married woman and mother, struggling to find her place within these roles while also trying to carve out her own purpose in this world, independent of these roles. I also love the way her relationship with her sister, Cassandra, is developed throughout the series, through their letters and various interactions over the years. I could easily imagine the Jane Austen in my mind reflected in the storylines that unfold within Mr. Hemingway’s narrative.
As Jane Austen’s own life ended far too early, I am prepared to feel a sense of great loss with the conclusion of this series. Are you ready to join us for this singular reading experience?
To me, the cover strikes that delicate balance between hope for the future and the possibility of never looking back… How does this cover make you feel?
Here’s the book description:
The Stunning Finale to Jane Austen’s Saga
In the moving conclusion to “The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen,” Jane and her husband struggle with the serious illness of their son, confront a bitter relationship with the aristocratic family who were once their friends, and face the horrific prospect of war when the British Army falters on the continent. The momentous events of the Napoleonic wars and the agonizing trials of their personal lives take Jane and Ashton to a decision that will decide their fate—and her future—once and for all.
Meet Collins Hemingway
Whether his subject is literature, history, or science, Collins Hemingway has a passion for the art of creative investigation. Hemingway’s fiction is shaped by the language of the heart and an abiding regard for courage in the face of adversity.
For him, the most compelling fiction deeply explores the heart and soul of its characters, while also engaging them in the complex and often dangerous world in which they have a stake. He wants to explore all that goes into people’s lives, to creatively investigate everything that makes them what they are as complete but fallible human beings.
His approach is to dive as deeply into a character’s heart and soul as possible, to address the root causes of their behavior rather than to describe superficial attitudes and beliefs. This treatment, he believes, is at the heart of all good fiction, for it provides the only way to draw a complete, complex portrait of a human being that is rewarding to readers.
As a nonfiction book author, Hemingway has investigated topics as diverse as corporate culture and ethics; the Internet and mobile technology; the ins and outs of the retail trade; and the cognitive potential of the brain. Best known for the #1 best-selling book on business and technology, Business @ the Speed of Thought, which he coauthored with Bill Gates, he has earned a reputation for tackling challenging topics with clarity and insight, writing for the nontechnical but intelligent reader. His shorter nonfiction has won awards for topics ranging from general interest to business to computer technology to medicine.
